Q:What will retirement living at MonteCedro offer?

You will enjoy an unregimented lifestyle, free from the burden of maintaining your own home, in one of most desirable locations in Los Angeles County. MonteCedro will be located in Altadena nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. We will offer a wealth of services and activities to enrich your life socially, recreationally, educationally and spiritually. If you should need care, we offer access to in home support and an Assisted Living with Memory Support neighborhood.

Q:What is a CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community)?

A continuing care retirement community provides the assurance that, in addition to independent residential living, health care services such as in- home care and Assisted Living with Memory Support will be available for you. When Episcopal Communities & Services signs a continuing care agreement with a resident, it makes a commitment to provide care and services to the resident under the terms of the contract for the remainder of the resident's life.

Q:What levels of care will MonteCedro offer?

MonteCedro will offer these distinctive levels of healthcare: An à la carte program will provide services in your own home when you need it – for example, help with bathing or dressing. If you need more assistance with activities of daily living such as memory support, this would be provided in private rooms in our on-site Assisted Living with Memory Support neighborhood.

Q:Are Memory Support/Assisted Living and the Care Center included in my entrance fee?

The continuing care agreement provides priority access to MonteCedro residents for services in our on site Assisted Living with Memory Support neighborhood, as well as our in-home care program for Aging in Place. Additional fees are charged á la carte services in your home and assisted living with memory support.

Q:Is MonteCedro close to area hospitals and medical offices?

The closest hospital is Huntington Hospital (Pasadena) and is widely known as one of the areas finest healthcare facilities and specialty hospitals with the only stroke and trauma center in the San Gabriel Valley. Methodist Hospital, in Arcadia, is also close by and enjoys an excellent reputation. There are several other medical and specialty facilities, such as same-day surgery centers conveniently located in the area.

Q:Who will own MonteCedro?

MonteCedro is a nonprofit, ecumenical community owned and operated by Episcopal Communities & Services, Inc., an established provider of quality care for seniors since 1923.

Q:What is the advantage of a nonprofit community?

As a nonprofit community, we are not charged with the task of returning a profit to the investors. In lieu of paying dividends to stockholders, we are able to reinvest proceeds into enhanced services for our residents and providing benefits to our surrounding communities.

Q:How do I reserve a home at MonteCedro?

Currently, we are offering prospective residents the opportunity to join our MonteCedro Members Club by making a No RISK fully refundable 10% deposit. The Club will give the members an opportunity to lock in the lowest entrance fee prices to be offered at MonteCedro and select their residence of choice. The balance of the entrance fee (90%) is not due until the community is ready for occupancy which is slated for 2015.

Q:What types of residences are being offered at MonteCedro?

The range of sizes should be 753-1741 sf, so we believe there is something for everyone who might be considering MonteCedro as a future home. The Assisted Living with Memory Support offers 20 private studios.

Q:Where will I park my car at MonteCedro?

MonteCedro offers an under-building, secured, parking spot per residential unit. Scheduled transportation is covered in your monthly fee, within a 10 mile range.

Q:What is covered in the Monthly Fee?

The monthly fee includes a benefit equal to 20 meals per month in your choice of dining venues, all utilities except personal phone, trash pickup, basic cable television, 24-hour call system, scheduled twice monthly housekeeping, grounds keeping, repairs and maintenance. Scheduled transportation to local medical facilities, to worship services, and shopping areas also is included.

Q:What kind of health and fitness activities will MonteCedro offer?

We are committed to enhancing the well being of our residents. Your monthly services fee includes preventative health services such as access to our resident health clinic for blood pressure monitoring, nurse consultation and minor first aid. In addition, we will schedule ongoing health education programs and you will have access to the fitness center, exercise classes, lap pool and water aerobics.

Q:What will the dining service be like at MonteCedro?

Your monthly fee includes a benefit equal to 20 meals per month in your choice of dining venues, which serve light breakfast foods, lunch and dinner. It is your choice. In each dining venue, you will select from the standard daily fare or the chef's special meals for that day.

Q:Can extra meals be purchased if needed?

Yes, of course. Extra charges will appear on your monthly statement. Meals you purchase for your guests will also be handled that way, relieving you of the need to bring cash or credit cards to any of the dining venues.

Q:What kinds of activities will be available at MonteCedro?

MonteCedro will offer a whole new world of cultural, social and wellness opportunities. Our Masterpiece Living Coach will talk with you about the things that would make your life richer and more meaningful: fitness and nutrition improvements, intriguing new pastimes, the things you’ve always longed to do-or do even better. Then the Masterpiece Living team will connect you with many facets of life at our community that will help you reach your goal, from tai Chi groups to music lessons, from lively discussions to French cooking classes – the kaleidoscope of personal enrichment that MonteCedro will offer. Religious and meditation services will be offered as well.

Q:What kind of security measures are planned for MonteCedro?

Many precautions will be taken to promote your safety and security. Our security begins with our gated community with controlled access. An emergency call device in each residence connects to our 24 hour response system and to the trained personnel who will come to your residence to assist you in emergencies. Security personnel monitor the community's grounds. In addition, security cameras are installed throughout the buildings and grounds. MonteCedro will utilize new technologies to enhance the security of the community and the residents as they become effective and reliable.

Q:What are the qualifications for moving to MonteCedro?

You must be 60 years or older to join the community. You will fill out a confidential application including, a confidential financial application, and your physician will complete a medical report for each applicant. The completed applications are reviewed, and the evaluation is based on both financial and health factors within the parameters set by the State of California for continuing care retirement communities.

Q:Why should I decide now?

Senior living and senior living communities have changed. People are healthier and many are making the decision to move early to have the time to enjoy a more carefree lifestyle while their health is good. Making the decision now relieves your children and their families of the possible burden of having to make these decisions under duress. This is an important decision. You've worked hard to be able to enjoy this kind of lifestyle - in that case, why would you want to wait?

Q:Will I still need my health insurance?

Yes, and as a condition to our Care and Residence Agreement, you must be enrolled in Medicare Parts A & B, or a substitute that is accepted by MonteCedro.

Q:When will MonteCedro be open?

MonteCedro began the presale (10% deposit phase), in April 2011. 75% of the residences (140) are now reserved with 10% deposits of the entrance fee for the residence selected. We broke gound in October 2013. Based upon this schedule MonteCedro would be open for residents to move into the community Fall 2015. 

Q:May I retain my family physician?

Yes, we encourage you to retain your family physician. We will coordinate transportation to your physician’s office on your behalf, if you wish us to do so.
