Q:What is the lifestyle like at MonteCedro?

MonteCedro offers a whole new world of educational, social and wellness opportunities with the Creative Living lifestyle. Our Life Enrichment professionals will connect you with the many facets of life at our community, from group fitness classes to performances in our auditorium, from lively discussion groups or an art class at Clark’s Studio, to the educational, cultural and social opportunities offered by our Creative Living Academy.

MonteCedro also offers Creative Living partnerships, which further enhance your lifestyle with rich, diverse cultural offerings from landmark institutions and other local business leaders. Q:What is a Life Plan community/Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)?

A Life Plan/CCRC provides the assurance that, in addition to independent residential living offering an array of services and amenities designed to keep people independent longer, there is also health care services such as Artful HomeCare, The Courtyards neighborhoods for Assisted Living and safe Memory Support available right on campus. Episcopal Communities & Services makes a commitment to provide care and services for life when a resident signs a care and residence agreement.

Q:Are Memory Support/Assisted Living and Artful HomeCare included in my entrance fee?

The care and residence agreement provides priority access to MonteCedro residents for services in our on-site Assisted Living or Memory Support neighborhoods, as well as the Artful HomeCare program for Aging in Place. Additional fees are charged for á la carte services in your home and Assisted Living or Memory Support.

Q:Is MonteCedro close to area hospitals and medical offices?

The closest hospital is Huntington Hospital (Pasadena) and is widely known as one of the area’s finest healthcare facilities and specialty hospitals with the only stroke and trauma center in the San Gabriel Valley. USC Verdugo Hills Hospital in La Canada, and  Methodist Hospital, in Arcadia, are also close by and enjoy excellent reputations. There are several other medical and specialty facilities, such as same-day surgery centers conveniently located in the area.

Q:Who owns MonteCedro?

MonteCedro is a nonprofit, ecumenical community owned and operated by Episcopal Communities & Services, Inc., an established provider of quality care for seniors since 1923.

Q:What is the advantage of a nonprofit community?

A nonprofit community is resident driven rather than profit driven. Any profits made are reinvested in the community and the services and care provided for the residents.

Q:What types of residences are being offered at MonteCedro?

The range of sizes available are one bedroom apartments starting at 750 square feet to two bedroom, den, two bath homes as large as 2,100 square feet, so we believe there is something for everyone who might be considering MonteCedro as a future home. Assisted Living and Memory Support neighborhoods offer a total of 20 private studios.

Q:Where will I park my car at MonteCedro?

MonteCedro offers a secure parking area under the large central building, allocating one parking spot per residential apartment included in the fees.  In addition, scheduled transportation is covered in your monthly fee within a 10-mile range.

Q:What is covered in the Monthly Fee?

The monthly fee includes:

  • A generous flexible dining credit of $350 per person, per month to be used in your choice of dining venues
  • All utilities except personal phone
  • Housekeeping and linen service twice monthly
  • Trash pickup
  • Basic cable television
  • Groundskeeping
  • 24-hour security and emergency response call system
  • Interior and exterior repairs and maintenance
  • Scheduled transportation to local medical facilities, worship services, and shopping areas within a 10 mile radius
  • Underground parking
  • Creative Living programs and events

Q:What kind of health and fitness activities does MonteCedro offer?

We are committed to enhancing the well-being of our residents. Your monthly service fee includes preventative health services such as access to our resident health clinic for blood pressure monitoring, nurse consultation and minor first aid. In addition, we will schedule ongoing health education programs and you will have access to the state-of-the-art Mariposa fitness center, personal trainer, exercise classes, swimming pool, water aerobics and the Mariposa spa and salon.

Q:How is the dining at MonteCedro?

Your monthly fee includes a flexible dining allowance of $350 per person per month. You will have a choice of dining venues. Enjoy fine dining for dinner at Marcell’s restaurant, a more casual daily experience at the Off Lake Bistro, or drinks and small plates at Station 8 bar.

Q:Can extra meals be purchased if needed?

Yes, of course, should you exceed your dining credit any extra charges will appear on your monthly statement. Meals you purchase for your guests will also be handled that way, or you can use a credit card in any of our dining venues.

Q:What kinds of security measures are in place at MonteCedro?

At MonteCedro, many precautions are taken to promote your safety and security. An emergency call device in each residence connects to our 24-hour response system and to the trained personnel who will come to your residence to assist you in emergencies. Security personnel monitor the community's grounds. In addition, security cameras are installed throughout the buildings and grounds. MonteCedro utilizes new technologies to enhance the security of the community and the residents as they become effective and reliable.

Q:What are the qualifications for moving to MonteCedro?

You must be 60 years or older and able to live independently to join the community. You will fill out a confidential application including a confidential financial application, and have your physician complete a medical report. The completed applications are reviewed, and the evaluation is based on both financial and health factors within the parameters set by the State of California for Life Plan/CCRCs.

Q:Why should I decide now?

MonteCedro represents a new definition of senior living. This is an important and limited opportunity since we are nearly sold out.  People choose MonteCedro now so they can stay in control of their options for their future. Our members made the decision to move early to best support their goals and to enjoy more of our creative lifestyle. Most people want to make this important decision themselves, and making the decision now relieves your children and their families of the possible burden of having to make these decisions under duress. You've worked hard and planned ahead your whole life – why would you want to wait?

Q:Will I still need my health insurance?

Yes, and as a condition to our Care and Residence Agreement, you must be enrolled in Medicare Parts A & B, or a substitute, plus a supplemental insurance policy that is accepted by MonteCedro.

Q:May I retain my family physician?

Yes, we encourage you to retain your family physician. We will coordinate transportation to your physician’s office on your behalf, if you wish us to do so.
